For the seventh year in a row, Melbourne ranked first on The Economist’s list of the most livable cities in the world. The capital city received perfect scores for education, infrastructure, and healthcare in the yearly report. All five major Australian capitals made the top 20 on the list. Melbourne’s main competitor, Sydney, ranked eleventh for the second year in a row. The cities in the top ten remain unchanged from last year. Adelaide placed fifth, for the sixth year in a row, and Perth came in seventh. The other seven global cities in the top ten included Vienna, Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Auckland, Helsinki and Hamburg. Brisbane stayed at number 16 in the ranking.

 

The survey editor for The Economists, Jon Copestake, admits Melbournians will take pride in being at the top seven years in a row. He does say it is worth noticing how tight the numbers are at the top of the ranking. Daniel Andrews, Victorian Premier, was proud of the number one ranking for Melbourne.
